F.A.Q.

Is Emilio suitable for beginners?

Emilio is an upright loom suitable for:

- complete beginners who want to learn how to weave rugs and tapestries;

- people who already have experience in weaving and want to work on a vertical loom;

- artists, designers and creative professionals who want to turn their own designs into textile works;

- and anyone looking for a sturdy yet compact vertical loom to use at home or in a studio.

No prior experience in weaving is necessary: the loom comes with full accessories and a detailed video tutorial (in Italian with English and French subtitles) explaining how to warp and weave on the loom.

What can I weave on Emilio?

With Emilio, you can hand-weave:

- flat-woven or knotted rugs;

- tapestries;

- mixed-media fibre art pieces;

- geometric and organic compositions;

- textile samples and projects of various sizes.

The vertical structure allows you to work comfortably in front of your project whilst maintaining good warp tension during weaving. Emilio is the same vertical loom that I use in my rug and tapestry weaving courses in Turin.

Why choose an upright loom?

The upright loom has historically been the preferred loom for tapestries and rugs. It offers a number of advantages:

- improved posture: a vertical loom allows you to weave whilst sitting or standing with your back straight as you work. Having the work in front of you means you do not have to bend your neck and back downwards as you would with a horizontal loom, significantly reducing physical strain.

- greater control over the artistic work: with the vertical configuration, the weaving is always at eye level. This makes it easier to look at the design as a whole, check for symmetry and follow any preparatory sketch.

- Compact design: a vertical loom takes up less space than a floor loom, making it ideal for home use or in spaces where room is limited.

- Ideal for tapestries and rugs: the upright loom excels at creating tapestries and rugs where the design is built up row by row using small shuttles and bobbins, rather than a flying shuttle.

What is included in the box?

When you purchase Emilio, you will receive:

- an upright loom made from solid lime wood, measuring 125 x 80 cm;

- heddle supports at three different heights;

- a 100 cm heddle;

- a 75 cm shed stick;

- a shuttle measuring 35 x 2.5 cm;

- a weaving comb;

- a weaving bobbin;

- a detailed video tutorial in Italian with subtitles in English and French;

- instructions for assembling the loom and screws for assembly.

The video tutorial teaches you, step by step, how to warp the loom and how to use it with all its accessories. Along with the tutorial, you’ll receive a list of links to websites where you can buy wool, warping cotton, clamps and other useful materials.

Clamps for securing the loom to the table are not included.

Is the loom shipped fully assembled?

No, the loom is shipped unassembled to make it easier to transport.

Assembly is simple and can be done by anyone, as it only involves two steps. The assembly instructions and screws are included in the pack; all you need to assemble it is a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Once assembled, Emilio can be secured to a table using two clamps (not included) and used straight away.

Can I try out Emilio before buying it?

Emilio is the same upright loom that students use during the 2- or 3-day rug weaving courses held in my studio in Turin. If you’d like to try out the loom and create your first tapestry or rug with me – up to 50x75cm in size – you can sign up for one of my group courses.
