About me

Artista tessile Ilary Bottini seduta davanti a un telaio verticale mentre tesse un'opera astratta in lana raffigurante un paesaggio marino notturno con toni di blu, verde e giallo

As a designer and textile artist specializing in hand-woven tapestries and fiber art, I reinterpret the ancient art of loom weaving with a contemporary style, combining it with other textile techniques to create volumetric effects and three-dimensional works.

In addition to the collection available for immediate purchase on my website, I create unique custom designs. For five years now, I have enabled my clients and collectors to translate suggestions, travel memories, images, dreams, and color nuances into exclusive textile works for their interior projects.

I also collaborate with visual artists and brands to create tapestries and fiber art pieces for private and institutional clients or prestigious corporate events.

My work has been published in leading art and interior design magazines, including AD, Arte, Art Tribune, Cose di Casa, Casa facile, and many others.

Over the past three years, I have trained hundreds of students in contemporary and artistic weaving thanks to my kits with handcrafted looms designed and produced by me, in-person and online workshops, and an exclusive course on the Domestika platform.

The studio

My studio is in Turin, in the historic San Salvario district, now one of the most vibrant in the city and a hub for artisans and designers.

Through my large windows at Via Belfiore 39, you'll see me working at the loom or winding yarn. My doors are always open and visitors are welcome, from neighborhood residents to curious tourists: everyone is invited to come in and chat about weaving or life!

In addition to weaving and creating, in my atelier I also design loom models that I produce with my trusted carpenters and sell on my shop. Furthermore, I organize group or individual workshops and residencies of one or more days dedicated to various textile techniques: tapestry and rug weaving, textile sculpture, tufting, and latch hooking.

The Materials

I select the best pure local, Sardinian and New Zealand wools for both my artistic practice and my teaching.

The weaving and textile arts I practice require the use of long-staple wools, rich in keratin and resistant, to create solid artefacts suitable for both foot traffic and washing.

In my workshops and residencies, I provide students with the same materials I use in my own practice, allowing them to create high-quality and durable artefacts.
